Job Responsibilities
Energy communities are emerging across Europe as an important mechanism to engage consumers and prosumers, accelerate the use of distributed renewable energy, and support a more flexible and sustainable energy system.
Traditional energy sharing requires physical connections between buildings and assets, which limits scalability. Virtual energy sharing, on the other hand, allows members of an energy community to share electricity via the public grid, regardless of physical design. This creates new opportunities for customer empowerment, optimized use of local renewable production, and improved grid efficiency.
This project aims to design, develop, and test a digital platform that enables effective virtual energy sharing in Sweden. The platform will support customers in understanding and optimizing their shared electricity usage while ensuring that sharing activities comply with grid constraints and regulatory requirements. It will include methods for allocating shared energy, assessing customer benefits, coordinating with distribution network needs, and providing interfaces for all involved parties.
The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency in collaboration with E.ON (a leading European energy company and distribution network operator). The results will provide a foundation for large-scale implementation of virtual energy sharing in Sweden, supporting customer participation and long-term climate goals.
Qualifications
Requirements
- PhD degree or foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a PhD.
- Research competence in at least one of the following areas: power systems, energy markets, digitalization, optimization.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken, as required in daily work.
- Strong programming experience in Python/Matlab.
Meritorious
- Strong expertise in digitalization of power systems/deep reinforcement learning, or power system optimization and energy management.
- Experience in developing digital platforms (e.g., local energy trading platform) is an advantage.
- Collaboration skills.
- Independence.
- Knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

About the Position
